Thylungra Airport (TYG)

Thylungra Airport is a small private airstrip serving Thylungra Station, a large pastoral lease covering about 2,820 square kilometres in Queensland's Channel Country. Located around 101 km northwest of Quilpie and 108 km southeast of Windorah, it provides essential aviation access to one of the region's historic sheep and cattle properties.

Thylungra Station was established by Patrick "Patsy" Durack in the late 1800s and has operated as both a sheep station and, more recently, one of Queensland's largest cattle stations. The airstrip supports station management, mustering, supply flights and Royal Flying Doctor Service medical evacuations in a remote part of outback Queensland.

The airport has a single runway of about 1,080 metres and no public passenger terminal or scheduled commercial airline services. Operations are generally private or chartered, and aircraft normally require prior permission from station management before using the strip.

Access is via remote outback roads, with Quilpie the nearest regional town and Brisbane around 1,070 km to the east by road. Visitors should arrange transport and confirm access in advance, as facilities at the airstrip are minimal.
