About Tamworth Regional Airport
Tamworth Regional Airport is the main airport serving Tamworth and the surrounding New England region in northern New South Wales. It is owned and operated by Tamworth Regional Council and primarily handles domestic regional flights, connecting Tamworth with Sydney and Brisbane.
The current airport opened in 1956 after the council began relocating the earlier aerodrome in 1952. It was upgraded to medium jet standard in 1982, and an upgraded terminal opened in 1985. The site is also a base for aviation training, flight schools and charter operators.
Located about 10 km from the Tamworth town centre on New Winton Road, the airport is reached by car, taxi or private transfer in roughly 10–15 minutes. On-site parking is available.
The single passenger terminal offers check-in, a café, the Qantas Club Lounge, car rental desks and other passenger facilities, making it a straightforward gateway for regional travel.
