About Summer Beaver Airport

Summer Beaver Airport is a small public airport serving Nibinamik First Nation, also known as Summer Beaver, in the far north of Ontario, Canada. Located about 4.6 km southwest of the community, it provides essential air access to a remote fly-in settlement with no all-weather road connection to the rest of the province.

The airport operates a single gravel runway, designated 17/35, approximately 1,070 metres long, and is used mainly by small regional aircraft. It is administered and operated by Ontario's Ministry of Transportation as one of the remote airports serving First Nations communities in the far north.

Because the community is accessible only by air or a seasonal winter and ice road, the airport is vital for passengers, cargo, and essential services. It became the first airport in Canada to be powered entirely by renewable wind and solar energy.

Passenger facilities are basic, and onward travel into the community is by road. Regional flights link Summer Beaver with Thunder Bay and other northern Ontario hubs, making the airport a key gateway for residents and visitors.
