About Sule Airport

Sule Airport is a small airstrip serving the village of Sule and nearby communities on the north coast of New Britain in West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. It is used primarily by light aircraft and provides a local aviation link for this remote part of the province.

The airfield dates to 1943, when it was built by the Imperial Japanese Navy as a wartime strip near Mount Uluwan. After the war it remained in use under the name Sule Airport and has continued to serve light-aircraft operations in the area.

The airstrip sits southwest of Sule village at roughly 30 metres above sea level. The provincial capital, Kimbe, lies about 140 kilometres to the south, and the nearest larger town, Kokopo, is around 127 kilometres to the northeast; road access in the area is limited, so light aircraft are often the most practical connection.

Facilities at the airfield are minimal, with no full passenger terminal, so travelers should arrange onward transport in advance and carry essentials. Despite its small size, the strip remains a useful local link for villages and light-aircraft operations along the north coast of West New Britain.
