Strahan Airport (SRN)

Strahan Airport is a small regional airport serving Strahan and the West Coast of Tasmania, close to Macquarie Harbour. It is owned and operated by the West Coast Council and handles charter, scenic and light-aircraft flights rather than scheduled airline services.

Proposals for an aerodrome at Strahan date back to the 1930s and 1950s, and the airport remains an important access point for this remote coastal region. It has a single sealed runway, 18/36, approximately 1,220 metres long, together with a compact terminal building used for passenger arrivals and departures.

Located on Macquarie Heads Road about 3.7 km west of the Strahan town centre, the airport is reached by road. There is no regular public transport link, so most travellers continue by private car, taxi, pre-booked transfer or rental vehicle.

Facilities are basic rather than extensive: toilets are available within the terminal building on request, but there is no fuel supply, no customs or immigration clearance and no large retail or dining area. Passengers joining scenic flights to the Gordon River, Macquarie Harbour and West Coast wilderness should confirm arrangements with their operator in advance.
