About Stewart Airport

Stewart Airport is a small regional airfield serving the community of Stewart in northwestern British Columbia. Located at the head of the Portland Canal near the Alaska border, it mainly supports general aviation, private charter flights and small commercial aircraft, with seasonal operations generally running from May to October.

The airport has a single paved runway, 18/36, measuring about 1,190 metres, and a modest passenger area. It has no customs or immigration facilities, so traffic is domestic. For scheduled airline connections, travelers typically use Terrace or Smithers, which are about three and a half hours away by road.

Stewart Airport sits less than a kilometre from the town centre, so transfers are short and straightforward by car, taxi, local shuttle or pre-arranged transfer. The airport is a practical starting point for visiting Hyder, Alaska, the Salmon Glacier and Bear Glacier Provincial Park.

On-site facilities are limited, as expected at a small regional airport, and most accommodation, dining and everyday services are found in Stewart town. The airport nevertheless plays an important role for regional access, tourism and private aviation in this remote part of British Columbia.
