St. Thomas Municipal Airport is a municipally operated general aviation airport serving St. Thomas, Elgin County, and the surrounding southwestern Ontario region. It supports private, corporate, charter, flight training, and public service aircraft rather than scheduled airline service, making it a practical gateway for business aviation and general aviation travelers.
Established in 1941 as an air training base for the British Commonwealth Air Training Program, the airport was operated by the Department of National Defence until the late 1940s as a relief field for No. 14 Service Flying Training School in Aylmer. The City of St. Thomas acquired the property in 1970 and has operated it as a municipal airport since then.
The airport has three asphalt runways and four IFR approaches, providing flexible operations for a range of aircraft. The facility also hosts flight training schools and is known as a venue for the Great Lakes International Airshow, a major regional aviation event.
Located about 3.5 nautical miles east of central St. Thomas and roughly 26 km south of London, the airport is reached by local roads and is convenient for continuing to St. Thomas, Elgin County communities, and the Lake Erie area by private transfer, taxi, chauffeur service, or rental car.
