About Smithers Regional Airport
Smithers Regional Airport is the main air gateway to Smithers and the Bulkley Valley in northwestern British Columbia. The airport is owned and operated by the Town of Smithers and primarily handles scheduled domestic flights connecting the region to Vancouver and other British Columbia points.
Located just north of the town centre, the airport has a single passenger terminal. The current terminal dates from 1970 and was expanded in 2007 to provide more passenger and baggage screening space; the airfield has an asphalt runway roughly 2,300 metres long.
Scheduled services are provided mainly by Air Canada Express and Central Mountain Air, with regional charter and medevac operations also using the airport. This makes YYD an important link for residents, businesses and visitors travelling through the Bulkley Valley.
For ground transport, travellers can continue by taxi, rental car or pre-booked private transfer. The airport's location close to Highway 16 also makes it convenient for onward journeys to Smithers, Telkwa, Hudson Bay Mountain and other communities in the region.
