Smith Point Airport (SHU)

Smith Point Airport is a small public airstrip on the Cobourg Peninsula in the Northern Territory, Australia. It serves mainly as the air access point for Garig Gunak Barlu National Park, a remote coastal park fronting the Arafura Sea and Van Diemen Gulf.

Located roughly 205 km northeast of Darwin, the airport is reached primarily by air charter rather than scheduled airline services. It has a single dirt runway of about 1,432 metres and no conventional passenger terminal, so most visitors continue to the national park by pre-arranged 4WD.

The airstrip sits about 2 km from the park's camp ground, and there is no public transport at the airport. During the dry season the peninsula can also be reached from Darwin along a long 4WD track, although the route is suited to high-clearance vehicles and requires careful planning.

Because facilities are minimal, travellers should arrive prepared and confirm all flight, landing-permit and onward transport arrangements in advance. The airport's role is to open access to a remote, protected coastal landscape rather than to provide conventional passenger services.
