The airstrip has a single short runway (14/32) of about 500 metres, suitable mainly for small aircraft and charter operations. Charter and small-aircraft services link the area with regional centres such as Madang and Mount Hagen, carrying passengers, supplies and essential services to remote communities.
Because there is no road into Sangapi, air transport is the primary way to reach the area; a helicopter flight from Madang takes around one hour. Travel between nearby villages such as Simbai, Dusin and Gebrau is usually done on foot along mountain tracks or by further small-aircraft hops.
