Sault Ste. Marie Airport is the main air gateway serving the city of Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District in Northern Ontario. Opened by the Canadian government in 1961, it was transferred in 1998 to the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation, which now operates the facility.
The airport sits about 15 km west-southwest of the city centre, near the eastern end of Lake Superior and the St. Marys River.
