About São Jorge Airport
São Jorge Airport is the only airport serving the island of São Jorge in the Azores. Opened on 23 April 1983, it primarily handles inter-island flights operated by SATA Air Açores, connecting São Jorge with Terceira and São Miguel.
The airport is located in the parish of Santo Amaro near Queimada, in the municipality of Velas, about 5 km southeast of the town centre. It has a single, compact passenger terminal that brings check-in, security, arrivals and ground services together in one small building.
Velas is reached from the airport in around 10 minutes by taxi, and car rental desks in the terminal make it easy to continue independently to Calheta and other parts of the island.
Facilities are modest but practical, with a café-bar, tourist information point, car rental desks and parking available for arriving and departing passengers.
