K'il Kun Xidgwangs Daanaay Airport is the main air gateway to Sandspit, Moresby Island and the wider Haida Gwaii archipelago off the northwest coast of British Columbia. Built by the Royal Canadian Air Force and operated during the Second World War as RCAF Station Sandspit, the airport is now owned and operated by Transport Canada. In March 2024 it was renamed K'il Kun Xidgwangs Daanaay, meaning "Sandspit flying place," in collaboration with the Council of the Haida Nation.
Located about 2.8 km northeast of Sandspit, the airport serves the largest community on Moresby Island, which is reachable only by air and sea. A single paved runway of about 5,112 feet supports Air Canada's scheduled flights to Vancouver, making the airport an important link between Haida Gwaii and the British Columbia mainland.
The compact terminal building houses airline check-in counters, security screening, a café and accessible passenger amenities, and is open daily from 8:00 to 16:30. Ground transportation includes rental cars, a shuttle connecting to the BC Ferries crossing at Alliford Bay and pre-arranged transfers, while there is no regular taxi service in Sandspit.
