About Saidor Airport

Saidor Airport (SDI) is a small general aviation airfield on the north coast of Madang Province, Papua New Guinea. It sits near the coastal settlement of Saidor, close to Saul Point, with Dekys Bay to the east and the Bismarck Sea to the north, and is used mainly by charter aircraft serving the Rai Coast area.

The airfield has a single grass runway, designated 12/30 and approximately 1,160 metres long, at an elevation of about 23 metres (75 feet). Its small scale means the airport is served mainly by charter aircraft and passenger facilities are limited, so travelers should plan flights and ground arrangements in advance.

Saidor Airport also has a wartime history: a pre-war airstrip was developed by U.S. forces after the January 1944 landing at Saidor and became an active forward airfield during the Pacific campaign. Today the airfield functions as a modest civilian gateway rather than a major commercial airport.

The nearest larger town, Madang, lies roughly 87 km to the northwest, but road access along this rugged coast is limited and journeys can be slow. Local movement is typically by pre-arranged vehicle, boat, or on foot, making the airport an important link for Saidor and surrounding communities.
