About Roland Garros Airport
Roland Garros Airport is the main international airport serving Réunion, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, and the nearby capital Saint-Denis. Located in Sainte-Marie, it is the island's primary air gateway for flights to and from mainland France, Europe and destinations across the Indian Ocean.
The airport is a hub for Air Austral and also handles services operated by airlines such as Air France, Corsair and French Bee, with frequent connections to Paris and Marseille. Formerly known as Gillot Airport, it was renamed in honour of the Réunion-born aviator Roland Garros.
In 2024, a new 13,000-square-metre bioclimatic Arrivals Terminal opened, using natural ventilation and local materials to reduce energy use, while the existing main terminal continues to handle check-in, security and departures. The airport sits about 8–10 km east of Saint-Denis along the RN2 coastal road.
Passengers can continue to Saint-Denis and other parts of the island by public bus, taxi, rental car or pre-booked transfer. Restaurants, shops, lounges and free Wi-Fi are available in the terminal, making the airport a convenient starting point for exploring Réunion.
