About Richmond Airport
Richmond Airport is the small regional airport serving Richmond, a pastoral town in outback north-west Queensland. Operated by the Richmond Shire Council, it provides an important air connection for residents, businesses and essential services across this remote part of the state.
The airport sits about 2 miles (roughly 3 km) northwest of the Richmond town centre and has a single asphalt runway, 09/27, measuring about 1,524 metres. Regional Express operates scheduled passenger flights between Richmond and Townsville, linking the town to the Queensland coast and onward travel options.
Because of its remote setting, the airport also supports the Royal Flying Doctor Service and other aircraft serving pastoral stations and isolated communities in the surrounding outback.
Road access is via the Flinders Highway, and the short drive into town makes onward transfers straightforward. Facilities are limited, reflecting the airport's role as a compact regional gateway, so travelers should confirm arrangements in advance.
