Queenstown Airport is the main airport serving Queenstown and the wider Southern Lakes region of New Zealand's South Island. Located in Frankton, about 8 km northeast of central Queenstown, it provides domestic connections to New Zealand's main centres and international flights to Australia's east coast.
The airport was first licensed on 14 August 1935, when it began as a grass airstrip on the Frankton Flats. Its first terminal building opened in 1964, and the terminal has been expanded several times since, including an international terminal expansion in 2015.
Today the airport operates a single terminal building for domestic and international flights, open daily from 04:00 to 22:30. The compact layout keeps walking distances short, with check-in, security, baggage claim, dining and retail in one building.
Queenstown Airport is connected to the town centre and surrounding areas by public bus, taxi, rideshare, shuttle and rental car services, making it an easy base for exploring Queenstown, Frankton, Arrowtown, Wānaka and nearby ski fields.
