Whitsunday Coast Airport (PPP) is the main air gateway to Proserpine and the Whitsundays region of Queensland, including Airlie Beach and the Great Barrier Reef. Opened in 1946, the airport has grown from a small regional airstrip into an award-winning facility, with an upgraded terminal opened in December 2011.
Located about 14 km south of Proserpine in Gunyarra, the airport operates a single integrated terminal handling domestic services. Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Skytrans connect the region with Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns, with buses, taxis and rideshare meeting most arrivals.
From the airport, Airlie Beach is roughly a 30-minute drive, and Shute Harbour provides onward ferry connections to the Whitsunday islands. Car rental, private transfers and shuttle services are available for reaching resorts, hotels and island ferry terminals.
