About Prince Rupert Airport

Prince Rupert Airport serves the port city of Prince Rupert and British Columbia's North Coast. The airport is located on Digby Island, separated from the city by roughly nine kilometres of water and land, and has operated since 1961, when scheduled air service began after the runway and support facilities were completed.

Today the airport has a single runway, one passenger terminal and two aircraft stands. It provides scheduled connections between Prince Rupert and Vancouver, supports private aircraft, and is classified as an airport of entry with customs clearance arranged in advance.

Because the airport sits on an island, travellers transfer between the terminal and downtown Prince Rupert by shuttle bus and the Digby Island Ferry, which has linked the airport with the city since 1970. Scheduled airline passengers are transferred by bus and ferry as part of their ticket.

The compact terminal provides free Wi-Fi, seating, washrooms and vending machines. With its ferry-and-bus connection, the airport offers a distinctive but practical gateway to the North Coast and onward destinations around Prince Rupert.
