About Port Moresby Jacksons International Airport
Port Moresby Jacksons International Airport is Papua New Guinea's principal international gateway and the main hub for domestic air travel across the country. Located around 8 km from central Port Moresby, it serves the National Capital District and connects the capital with destinations throughout Papua New Guinea and overseas.
The airport opened in 1940 and was used as a military airfield during the Second World War. Today it operates two passenger terminals, the International Terminal and the Domestic Terminal, linked by a short covered walkway. It is the base for the national carrier Air Niugini and a key operating point for PNG Air and several regional and international airlines.
Ground transport is provided mainly by pre-arranged hotel shuttles, private transfers, registered taxis and rental cars, as there is no public bus or rail service from the airport. The drive to downtown Port Moresby typically takes around 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.
