About Port Hedland International Airport
Port Hedland International Airport is the main airport serving the town of Port Hedland and the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Located along the Great Northern Highway, it lies about 9.3 km south-east of the Port Hedland town centre and about 11 km from South Hedland.
The airport is the only international airport in the Pilbara and provides direct links to the world's largest iron ore export port, as well as the oil and gas fields of the Bedout Basin. It primarily handles regional and charter flights, with direct services to Perth and connections to other Australian destinations.
The passenger terminal has been progressively upgraded and redeveloped, with the terminal transformation completed in 2023. The airport also supports a heliport operation and freight activity for the mining and resources sector.
Because there is no public transport to the airport, travellers typically use taxis, rideshare, hire cars, or charter buses arranged through accommodation providers to reach Port Hedland, South Hedland and other destinations across the region.
