About Port Hardy Airport
Port Hardy Airport is a small regional airport at the northeastern end of Vancouver Island, serving Port Hardy and the surrounding Mount Waddington region. It opened in 1943 as Royal Canadian Air Force Station Port Hardy and was transferred to the Department of Transport in 1946.
The airport operates a single terminal building with two paved runways, 11/29 and 08/26. Pacific Coastal Airlines provides scheduled flights to Vancouver, while Wilderness Seaplanes offers charter connections to nearby coastal communities such as Bella Bella, Wuikinuxv Village, and Klemtu.
Located about 10 kilometres east of downtown Port Hardy, the airport is reached by BC Transit Route 4, taxis, and rental cars. Short- and long-term parking and electric vehicle charging stations are available on site.
Passenger facilities are modest but practical for a regional airport, including a snack bar, vending machines, wheelchair service, automatic doors, accessible washrooms, and accessible parking.
