About Poplar Hill Airport

Poplar Hill Airport is the only year-round air connection for Poplar Hill First Nation, an Anishinaabe community in northwestern Ontario close to the Manitoba border. Operated by the Government of Ontario, this small public airport supports residents, essential services and regional travel in a remote part of the province.

The community is a fly-in settlement, reached by air throughout the year and by seasonal winter and ice roads running south through Pikangikum toward Red Lake. The airport sits about 1.1 km east of the community, and scheduled regional flights link it with Red Lake, roughly 120 km to the south, where passengers can connect onward.

The airfield has a single gravel-and-sand runway and one small terminal building, reflecting its role as a compact northern gateway rather than a large passenger hub. Facilities are basic, and travellers should arrange local transport and confirm flight details before arrival.
