About Pico Airport
Pico Airport is the main airport serving Pico Island in Portugal's Azores archipelago. Opened in 1982 and substantially upgraded in 2004, it now provides a compact, modernised base for flights linking the island with the wider Azores and mainland Portugal.
The airport sits on the island's northern coastline between the communities of Bandeiras and Santa Luzia, around 8 km from the capital Madalena. A single passenger terminal handles arrivals, departures and check-in for services operated mainly by SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines.
The runway was extended to 1,745 metres as part of the 2004 upgrade, and the site now includes a control tower, firefighting facilities, car parking and passenger amenities such as a café-bar, shop, Wi-Fi and tourist information.
Pico Airport is connected to Madalena and other island destinations by local bus, taxi and road, making onward travel to ferry ports, vineyard areas and the Pico mountain region straightforward for visitors.
