About Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport
Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport is Belize's only international airport and the main gateway for visitors arriving in the country. Located in Ladyville, Belize District, it sits about 10 miles (16 km) from downtown Belize City and serves both international and domestic flights across the region. The airport's history dates back to 1943, when a 5,000-foot asphalt runway was first constructed, followed by a terminal building inaugurated in January 1945. It is named in honor of Belizean nationalist Philip S. W. Goldson and today operates a 9,900-foot runway and a 110,000-square-foot terminal building with Terminals 1 and 2. Ten international and two domestic airlines operate from the airport, connecting Belize to destinations in the United States, Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean and beyond. The terminal includes international arrival and departure halls, a domestic arrival hall, restaurants, duty-free and retail shops, banking services and a nearby rental services center. Ground transportation from the airport includes the Ladyville Airport Taxi Association taxi service, car rentals and private transfer options, with the drive to Belize City typically taking around 20 to 30 minutes. These connections also make the airport a practical starting point for travelers heading to coastal islands such as Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker or inland destinations across Belize.
