About Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport
Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport is the domestic airport serving Belize City and the surrounding Belize District. Formerly known as the Belize City Municipal Airstrip, it was upgraded and renamed in November 2016 in honour of Belizean businessman and aviator Sir Barry Bowen.
Located about one mile, or roughly two kilometres, from the city centre, the airport is more central than Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport. It functions as the main city hub for Tropic Air and Maya Island Air, offering frequent domestic flights to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, Dangriga, Placencia and Punta Gorda.
The airport has a compact layout with airline terminal buildings used by the two domestic carriers, keeping check-in and boarding procedures relatively quick and straightforward for short regional flights.
