About Peawanuck Airport
Peawanuck Airport is the only year-round air link for Peawanuck, an isolated Cree community in the Kenora District of northwestern Ontario. The airport serves the Weenusk First Nation and surrounding area near the confluence of the Winisk and Shamattawa rivers, close to Hudson Bay.
The airport has a single gravel runway, Runway 11/29, measuring about 3,520 feet, and a small passenger building. It primarily supports scheduled connector flights and charter traffic linking Peawanuck with Moosonee and Timmins and onward destinations.
Because Peawanuck has no year-round road access, the airport is essential for passenger travel, freight and medical transport. In winter, ice roads connect the community with Fort Severn and other northern locations, but air service remains the main reliable link for much of the year.
Located roughly 3 km southwest of the community centre, the airport is a short drive from Peawanuck. Travellers should confirm flight schedules and arrange onward transport in advance, as services are limited in this remote location.
