About Palm Island Airport
Palm Island Airport is the main air gateway to Great Palm Island, the largest island in the Palm Island group off the coast of North Queensland, Australia. The airport links the island community with Townsville, the nearest major regional city, through regular scheduled flights.
The airport is a small public facility operated by the Aboriginal Shire of Palm Island. It has a single paved runway aligned 14/32 and a compact terminal building that handles domestic arrivals and departures.
Located on the island about 60 km north of Townsville across Cleveland Bay, Palm Island Airport is reached from the mainland primarily by air. Hinterland Aviation operates scheduled services between Townsville and Palm Island, and freight and barge services also connect the island with the mainland.
Passenger facilities at the airport are limited, reflecting its role as a small community airport. Travellers typically arrange local pickup or a pre-arranged transfer for the short journey to Palm Island township and nearby accommodation.
