About Paiela Airport
Paiela Airport is a small domestic airfield serving Paiela in Enga Province, in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. It provides an important air link for one of the country's more remote communities, where road access is limited and overland travel can be difficult.
Located near the Paiela settlement at an elevation of about 1,859 metres, the airport has a single unsealed gravel runway. It mainly supports small aircraft and charter operations serving local communities, nearby mining and administrative areas, and connections to larger provincial centres such as Porgera and Wabag.
The airfield is situated close to Paiela itself, so onward travel to the immediate township area is short. Journeys to other towns depend on local conditions and may involve onward flights, tracks, or limited road access rather than scheduled surface transport.
Facilities are basic, reflecting the airport's size and remote location. Travellers should plan for simple passenger amenities and confirm flight and onward travel arrangements before departing.
