Ottawa / Rockcliffe Airport (YRO)

Ottawa / Rockcliffe Airport is a small general aviation airfield serving Canada's capital region. Its aviation history dates back to 1918, when it was used for early Royal Air Force mail flights, and it later became a Royal Canadian Air Force base during the Second World War as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. After transitioning to civilian use, it was recognized in 2018 as Canada's oldest active airfield.

Located on the south shore of the Ottawa River, about 7 km northeast of downtown Ottawa, the airport is the closest airfield to the centre of the capital. It is a non-towered airport used primarily for private, flight-training and general aviation traffic, with the Rockcliffe Flying Club maintaining and operating the field.

The airfield features a single active asphalt runway (09/27) and sits directly beside the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, which owns the field and preserves a collection of more than 130 aircraft and artifacts. Arriving pilots and visitors are also close to Rockcliffe Park, New Edinburgh and the ByWard Market.

Downtown Ottawa is roughly 10 minutes away by car, and scenic riverside bike paths connect the airport to the city in about 25 minutes. With fuel, tie-downs, ground support, flight training and other general aviation services on site, YRO serves as a practical gateway for private and recreational aviation into the capital.
