About Oro Negro Airport
Oro Negro Airport is a small regional airport serving Cabimas and the oil-producing eastern shore of Lake Maracaibo in Zulia State, western Venezuela. Opened in 1962, it is the smallest commercial airport in Zulia and takes its name from the region's petroleum industry, which it has long supported with passenger and charter traffic.
The airport operates from a compact single-terminal building of about 600 square meters. Conviasa provides the main scheduled service with a connection to Caracas, while private executive flights and occasional military operations also use the airfield. The airport is administered by the management of La Chinita International Airport in Maracaibo.
Located approximately 14 km southeast of central Cabimas in the La Plata sector, the airport is linked to the Lara-Zulia highway. Taxis and shared vans connect the terminal to Cabimas, nearby oil installations and other towns in the region.
Although passenger facilities are limited, the airport remains a practical air gateway for business and oil-sector travelers, offering a much faster alternative to long overland journeys to Caracas and other parts of Venezuela.
