Orbost Airport (RBS)

Orbost Airport is a certified regional aerodrome serving Orbost, Marlo and the East Gippsland region of Victoria. Located off Marlo Aerodrome Road, the airport sits about 6 km southeast of the Marlo township and roughly 16 km from the centre of Orbost, approximately 394 km east of Melbourne.

Operated by East Gippsland Shire Council, the airport has a single sealed runway (07/25) measuring 1,140 metres, together with a small terminal building, an airbase and aircraft hangars. It does not currently have scheduled commercial passenger services, but supports emergency services, air ambulance and aerial firefighting operations, recreational flights, corporate charter flights, Angel Flight services and aerial surveying.

The airport is an uncontrolled aerodrome with 24/7 CCTV, restricted airside access and a no-drone zone, and it was named National Small Regional Aerodrome of the Year in 2021 and 2023. There are currently no landing or parking fees, and no fuel is available on site; the nearest fuel supplies are at Bairnsdale and Mallacoota.

With limited public transport at the airport, travelers typically continue to Orbost, Marlo, Cape Conran and the Snowy River area by pre-booked taxi, private transfer or rental car. The compact terminal and single runway keep operations simple for pilots and visitors arriving in this quiet corner of East Gippsland.
