About Noosa Airport
Noosa Airport is a small general aviation airfield serving Noosa Heads, Noosaville and the surrounding Sunshine Coast region of Queensland. Opened in December 1975, it began as the hub for the regional airline Noosa Air and later supported Sunstate Airlines before commercial services were relocated.
Located at the end of Lake Weyba Drive in Noosaville, the airport sits beside Lake Weyba approximately 5 km from central Noosa Heads. It has a single runway (11/29) and a compact terminal building that today handles private aircraft, charter and scenic flights, and emergency services rather than scheduled passenger operations.
Commercial flights ended in the 1980s when Air Services Australia closed the aerodrome to commercial traffic because of its proximity to Maroochydore Airport, now Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY), which remains the main scheduled gateway for the region. Today the airfield supports general aviation, charter, scenic flights and emergency operations.
Because the airport is small and private, most visitors travelling to Noosa arrange road transfers, taxis or rental cars for the short drive to Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Hastings Street and nearby beach and hinterland areas.
