About Niagara District Airport
Niagara District Airport is a regional airport serving the Niagara region of Ontario, Canada. Opened in 1929 and relocated to its present site in 1935, it has grown into a busy general aviation hub and is jointly owned by the City of Niagara Falls, the City of St. Catharines and the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Located in Niagara-on-the-Lake and about 5 km from downtown St. Catharines, the airport is minutes from the Niagara Falls tourism district, wineries, golf courses and resort areas. It currently supports general aviation, charter and private flights, flight training, helicopter tours and business aviation rather than scheduled commercial passenger service.
The airport features a 5,000-foot runway on more than 360 acres and records roughly 40,000 aircraft movements each year. A NAV CANADA flight service station is based on-site, and Canada Border Services Agency customs is available seven days a week for international arrivals.
A 2025–2045 master plan sets out phased improvements including terminal expansion, runway extensions and the eventual introduction of scheduled passenger service with security screening and customs facilities. For now, the airport remains a convenient regional gateway for pilots, charter travellers and visitors exploring Niagara.
