About Myitkyina Airport
Myitkyina Airport is the main airport serving Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State in northern Myanmar. Located close to the city centre near the Irrawaddy River, it provides an essential air link between this northern region and cities such as Mandalay and Yangon.
The site was originally established as an airfield before the Second World War and was used by military forces during the conflict; after being captured by the Japanese army in 1942, the airfield was retaken by Allied forces in 1944. It has since developed into a compact public airport focused on domestic passenger services.
The airport operates through a single passenger terminal with a 1,859-metre asphalt runway. Domestic carriers such as Myanmar National Airlines, Air KBZ and Mann Yadanarpon Airlines connect Myitkyina with Mandalay, Putao and Yangon, supporting business travel, administration and tourism in Kachin State.
Situated roughly 3–4 km from central Myitkyina, the airport can be reached in about 10 minutes by taxi or private transfer.
