About Murray Island Airport
Murray Island Airport is a small public airport on Mer (Murray Island) in the Torres Strait, Queensland, Australia. Operated by the Torres Strait Island Regional Council, it provides essential air links between the island community, other Torres Strait islands and mainland Australia. Located close to the island's main community, the airport has a single short runway used by small aircraft on regional routes. Services connect Murray Island with Horn Island, the Torres Strait's main air hub, and nearby islands such as Darnley Island and Yorke Island, allowing onward travel to Cairns and other destinations. The airport is only a short distance from the settlement, so travellers can usually reach island accommodation on foot or with a brief locally arranged vehicle transfer. Because facilities are limited, passengers should confirm flight times and check-in details with their airline before travel. Despite its small scale, Murray Island Airport plays an important role for residents, essential services and visitors travelling to this remote part of Queensland.
