About Mulan Airport

Mulan Airport (LGE), also known as Lake Gregory–Mulan Airport, is a small regional aerodrome serving the remote Aboriginal community of Mulan and the Lake Gregory (Paruku) area in the east Kimberley of Western Australia. It provides essential air access for the community, charter operations and medical services in a region with very limited road infrastructure.

Located about 280 km south of Halls Creek, the airport sits on the northern edge of the Great Sandy Desert and the western edge of the Tanami Desert, close to Lake Gregory. It has a single runway of about 1,180 metres and mainly handles light aircraft used for community access, charter flights and Royal Flying Doctor Service medical transfers. Recent upgrade works have focused on runway remediation, boundary fencing and lighting to support these essential services.

The airstrip is reached by road via the Tanami Road, and 4WD vehicles are generally required, especially after rain. Aviair operates scheduled flights between Halls Creek and Lake Gregory (LGE), with the flight taking about one hour, while other movements are charter, community or emergency flights.

Rather than a conventional commercial terminal, Mulan Airport functions as a practical gateway for a small and isolated community. Travellers should confirm flight and road arrangements in advance and expect the basic facilities typical of a remote outback aerodrome.
