About Moro Airport
Moro Airport is a small domestic airfield serving Moro and the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. Located near Lake Kutubu, it primarily supports the region's oil and gas operations as well as passenger travel to and from the highlands.
The airport sits at an elevation of about 835 metres and has an unsealed runway, with aviation activities normally limited to daylight hours. Scheduled domestic flights connect Moro with Port Moresby and Mount Hagen, providing an important air link for this remote part of the country.
In 2016, the Moro aerodrome received an Aerodrome Operating Certificate from Papua New Guinea's Civil Aviation Safety Authority, making it one of only two certified airports in the country at that time. The airport is roughly 50 km southwest of Mendi, the provincial capital, and about 1 km from the Moro township.
Road access in the area is limited and conditions can be difficult, so most travellers rely on flights, pre-arranged transfers, company vehicles or four-wheel-drive transport. Facilities at the airport are basic, and onward services are generally arranged in advance.
