Merluna Airport is a small general-aviation airfield serving Merluna Station and the surrounding Cape York Peninsula region in Far North Queensland. It provides essential air access for the remote cattle station, private aircraft, charter flights and supply runs rather than scheduled commercial passenger services.
The airport operates as a single all-weather airstrip with one runway aligned 9/27 and an elevation of about 276 feet. It sits roughly 120 kilometres southeast of Weipa and about 8 kilometres off the Peninsula Developmental Road, making it a useful stopping point for travellers crossing Cape York.
Because of its remote location, road access is via the Peninsula Developmental Road and unsealed station tracks, and a 4WD vehicle is recommended, particularly in the wet season. The drive to Weipa normally takes around one and a half to two hours depending on conditions.
Passenger facilities at the airport are limited and centred on the working station, so visitors should arrange fuel, refreshments and onward transport in advance.
