About Merimbula Airport
Merimbula Airport is a regional airport on the far south coast of New South Wales, serving Merimbula, the Bega Valley and the wider Sapphire Coast. Owned by Bega Valley Shire Council, it is the main air gateway for domestic travel to this part of the coast.
Located about 2 km from Merimbula's town centre between Merimbula and Pambula, the airport is served by Rex Airlines and QantasLink with regular domestic flights to Sydney and Melbourne as well as other regional connections. Its single small passenger terminal combines check-in, security screening, departures and arrivals in one compact ground-level building.
The terminal was expanded in 2019 with new arrivals, security screening and baggage handling areas plus additional car parking, and the runway has since been strengthened and lengthened to support larger turboprop aircraft. The airport serves leisure travellers heading to coastal towns, beaches and national parks as well as local residents and business travel.
Travellers can continue by taxi from the terminal rank, pre-booked transfers, rental car or limited local bus services, with Merimbula's town centre only a short drive away. Facilities are modest but practical, including a café, seating, restrooms, car rental counters and parking, making the airport a convenient regional gateway to the Sapphire Coast.
