About Mendi Airport
Mendi Airport is the only airport serving the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. It acts as the region's principal air link, connecting Mendi and surrounding highland communities with the rest of the country. The airport was closed in 2018 after an aircraft was destroyed during local conflict and reopened in May 2024 following a major redevelopment.
The rebuilt airport includes a single modern terminal building and a paved runway designed to handle regional domestic aircraft. Its compact layout allows passengers to move between check-in, security, departures and arrivals areas with relative ease.
