Meekatharra Airport (MKR)

Meekatharra Airport is the regional airport serving Meekatharra, a small town in the Mid West region of Western Australia, around 750 km north-east of Perth. Owned by the Shire of Meekatharra, it provides scheduled passenger connections with Perth and supports travel to nearby mining, pastoral and remote communities.

The airport operates from a single terminal building with a non-screened check-in area, seating, baggage facilities and toilets. It has an asphalt runway (09/27) and a smaller sand runway (15/33), and is classed as a security controlled airport. It also serves as a regional base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and as an important diversion point for flights across the region.

Located about 10 km from the Meekatharra town centre, the airport is reached by road. There are no taxi services in Meekatharra, so most travellers use pre-arranged private transfers, rental cars or accommodation pickups to continue into town or out to surrounding mine sites and stations.

Passenger facilities are basic and the terminal is staffed mainly during scheduled flights and mining charters. Telstra mobile coverage is available locally, but the terminal has no public phone, so advance planning helps make arrival and departure straightforward.
