Marqua Airport (MQE)

Marqua Airport is a private outback airstrip on Marqua Station, a large cattle property in the eastern Northern Territory of Australia. Rather than serving scheduled airline traffic, it supports station operations, charter flights, freight deliveries and medical services across a remote pastoral region.

The airfield lies roughly 360 km northeast of Alice Springs and close to the Plenty Highway, with Mount Isa in western Queensland around 325 km to the northeast. Its single unsealed runway, designated 12/30, is used by light aircraft and rugged turboprops, mostly in daylight under visual flight rules and with prior permission from station management.

There is no public passenger terminal, check-in area or commercial airport infrastructure. Access is by private aircraft or by road, and the unsealed Plenty Highway generally requires a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle, particularly after rain.

Despite its small scale, the airstrip is an important local link: it is used by the Royal Flying Doctor Service for emergency evacuations and health clinics and helps keep the station connected when wet-season flooding cuts road access. Travellers should be fully self-sufficient and confirm all arrangements in advance.
