Marion Downs Airport (MXD)

Marion Downs Airport is a remote outback airstrip serving Marion Downs Station, a large cattle property in the Channel Country of western Queensland, Australia. It operates as a private aviation facility rather than a commercial passenger airport, supporting station movements, charter flights and Royal Flying Doctor Service operations.

The airstrip sits about 56 kilometres southwest of Boulia and roughly 282 kilometres north of Birdsville. Its dirt runways and minimal infrastructure reflect the isolated, sparsely populated region it serves, where road access depends on 4WD vehicles and can be affected by recent rain.

There is no scheduled terminal, security screening or public transport at the site. Arrivals and departures are coordinated directly with station management or the charter operator, and onward travel is usually by pre-arranged station or private 4WD vehicle.

Even with its small scale, the airport provides a valuable link for the pastoral community in this part of outback Queensland, supporting supply runs, property access and emergency medical support that would otherwise require long and difficult road journeys.
