About Manitoulin East Municipal Airport
Manitoulin East Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport serving Manitoulin Island in Northern Ontario. Opened in 1988, it is owned by the Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands and the Township of Assiginack, and operated by the Manitoulin East Municipal Airport Commission.
Located about 14 km north of Manitowaning, the airport has a single asphalt runway and a small terminal building with a waiting area, washrooms, food service and a car rental office. It handles private, charter, corporate and air ambulance flights and remains open year-round, functioning as an air ambulance transfer hub for the region.
The airport sits close to Highway 6, the main road across Manitoulin Island, making it convenient for onward travel to Manitowaning, Little Current and other island communities. Fuel, hangars and aircraft tie-downs are available for visiting aircraft.
Although it has no scheduled airline service, the airport supports local aviation activity and connects the island to larger centres such as Sudbury and Toronto through charter, private and medical flights.
