Manaung Airport (MGU)

Manaung Airport is a small domestic airport serving Manaung town and Manaung Island in Rakhine State, Myanmar. It provides an air link between this coastal island community and other domestic destinations and is an important access point for travellers visiting the area.

The airport is located just outside Manaung town, about 4 km from the town centre. It has a single paved runway and a small passenger terminal, and its facilities are geared toward domestic regional flights rather than large-scale international operations.

The airfield was upgraded in the 1983–1984 fiscal year into an all-weather 2,000-foot bituminous strip for Twin Otter aircraft. A further runway extension completed around 2015 brought the runway to roughly 4,000 feet, allowing Fokker F-27 operations and improving access for regional flights.

Because scheduled public transport at the airport is limited, most passengers continue to Manaung town by pre-arranged transfer, hotel vehicle or private car. Visitors should confirm onward arrangements in advance to make the short journey into town and other parts of the island straightforward.
