Los Chiles Airport (LSL)

Los Chiles Airport is a small regional aerodrome serving Los Chiles in Alajuela Province, northern Costa Rica. It lies on the eastern edge of the town and roughly three kilometres southeast of the border with Nicaragua, close to the San Juan River area.

The airfield has a single asphalt runway oriented 06/24 and primarily handles private aircraft, charter flights and government operations rather than regular commercial passenger services. In March 2017, a renewed runway and related infrastructure were completed to improve safety and support local connectivity in this northern border region.

Los Chiles town centre is only about two kilometres from the airfield, normally a short taxi ride away, while the capital San José lies around 140 kilometres to the southeast. Most visitors reach the area by road, using buses, taxis or private vehicles, since scheduled commercial flights are not currently the main way of arriving.

For travelers, the airport works as a compact and practical entry point for the northern frontier, the San Juan River and the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. Passenger facilities are modest, with basic waiting and shelter areas rather than a large terminal, and onward journeys are best completed from the nearby town centre.
