About Limbunya Airport

Limbunya Airport (LIB, ICAO YLIM) is a private outback airstrip on Limbunya Station, a large cattle property in the Victoria River District of the Northern Territory, Australia. Rather than functioning as a commercial airport, it works as a station airstrip supporting mustering, supply logistics, charter flights and Royal Flying Doctor Service medical evacuations.

The airfield lies roughly 650 km by road southwest of Katherine and about 205 km in a straight line from Kununurra, close to the Buntine Highway and the Western Australian border. It has a single unsealed runway used mainly by light aircraft, with no scheduled airline service and no passenger terminal building.

Access and flight operations are by prior arrangement with station management. There is no public transport, taxi rank or on-site car rental, and road access depends on the Buntine Highway. Conditions can become difficult during the wet season, when the unsealed airstrip may be unusable after heavy rain.

Facilities are minimal and travelers should be self-sufficient, carrying food, water and reliable communications. For onward travel, the nearest service towns and commercial airports are Katherine and Kununurra, with Darwin further north.
