Lady Elliot Island Airstrip (LYT)

Lady Elliot Island Airstrip is the only airport serving Lady Elliot Island, a coral cay at the southern tip of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. It provides the main air gateway for guests travelling to Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort and for day visitors arriving on reef experiences. The airstrip was graded in 1969 and consists of a single grass runway that runs the length of the island. It handles small chartered aircraft rather than large commercial jets, and there are no conventional terminal buildings or roads on the island. Located about 80 kilometres northeast of Bundaberg, the island is reached by scenic flights from Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Brisbane (Redcliffe) and the Gold Coast. Passengers are met on arrival and walk a short distance to the resort reception area. Because the island is a compact eco destination, the airport experience is intentionally simple: travellers pass through a small waiting area and are looked after by resort and charter staff. The airstrip is also the only way in and out of the island.
