About Kitkatla Seaplane Base

Kitkatla Seaplane Base, also known as Kitkatla Water Aerodrome, is a small float-plane facility serving Kitkatla on the north side of Dolphin Island in British Columbia. The village, also called Lach Klan, is home to the Gitxaala Nation and is reached primarily by scheduled seaplane or boat from Prince Rupert.

Located roughly 45 km southwest of Prince Rupert, the base provides an important connection between the North Coast's largest service centre and this remote coastal community. It is a water aerodrome rather than a conventional land airport, so aircraft take off and land on the water and passengers move directly between the dock and the float plane.

Because the facility is small and remote, passenger infrastructure is limited. Travelers should expect a simple dock-side operation rather than terminal buildings, airline check-in desks, retail areas or long-stay parking.

For onward travel, the village is compact and most destinations on the island are reached on foot or by boat. Prince Rupert remains the main regional gateway, offering connections by road, ferry and air to other parts of British Columbia.
